Classes
Mercy offers several classes to help women (and their partners) prepare for childbirth and caring for their new infant. We encourage you to participate in all that meet your needs.

Anesthesia Options ~ Designed for those who would like more information regarding the use of regional anesthesia for pain relief during labor and the anesthesia options available for Cesarean birth. There is no charge for this class.
Baby & Me (New Mother's Support Group) ~ This ongoing group can help new mothers learn about themselves, their new roles and coping with the changes and challenges new mothers experience. Groups meet from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at Mercy Hospital of Folsom. All new moms are welcome. There is no charge to participate.
Baby Basics (Baby Care) ~ In this class, participants will discuss newborn care; including feeding, dressing and comforting. A bath demonstration is also included. $30 per couple.
Great Expectations (Childbirth Preparation) ~ This series of classes helps prepare women and their partners for the experience of labor and birth. Class topics include the birth process, medical procedures and relaxation and breathing techniques. $75 per couple.
Maternally Fit ~ To help you stay fit and minimize the impact of changes to your body during pregnancy, Methodist Hospital offers the Maternally Fit Pool Program, a low-impact, warm water pool class specifically designed for expectant mothers following their first trimester. Moveable Feast (Breastfeeding) ~ Learn about breastfeeding advantages, techniques, family adjustments and dealing with common difficulties and concerns. $30 per couple.
Stork Tours ~ Take a tour of the labor and birth rooms, and postpartum unit at the Mercy hospital where you will be giving birth. Stork Tours are free to expectant parents.

Podcasts
Listed at right is a compilation of podcasts recorded on topics related to pregnancy and pregnancy planning. Mercy doctors and a labor & delivery nurse, a registered dietician, midwives and a lactation consultant all share their experience and insights. A Mercy patient also shares her experiences throughout her pregnancy, including information on the Maternally Fit program.
